Watts

Hi, welcome to Watts workshop. I am here with Jeff today who is going to talk about Kwik-change drinking water systems. Jeff, I take bottled water everyday and it's costing a small fortune.

How can a system help me out anyway. And I also drink a lot of bottled water and it is very expensive. And there is also the concern of environmental impact because these empty plastic bottles are filling up our our landfills at a record rate. We have the Watts drinking water systems.

They can help with that. The first thing we have is our drinking water system that has a sediment filter which takes out particulate matter such as sand and other suspended solids. We have a carbon filter which takes out chlorine, chloreamine, taste and odors.

Then we have our UF membrane which takes out very small particles like bacteria and cysts. Provides high quality drinking water at a fraction of the cost. How is the RO system different?

The RO system produces true bottled water quality. It has the same type of sediment filter, the carbon filter that removes the chlorine that could damage the RO membrane and then we have our RO membrane which separates the feed water into a purified stream and a concentrate stream. The RO membrane removes metals, minerals, salts, bacteria and viruses. This is best type of water-treatment membrane there is. After the RO membrane we have a storage tank and as you use the water it comes out the storage tank and goes to the final filter. Can this be used on city or well water?

Absolutely it can be used on any potable water supply to provide you with high-quality drinking water. Is this working on a whole house filtration system? No, this is what is called a point of use system or a purity system. It produces relative small amounts of water which is adequate for drinking and cooking. Can I use this on my my refrigerator or ice maker? Absolutely your water quality dealer will have the components necessary to hook this up to your refrigerator or icemaker while he is performing the installation.

How easy is it to change the filters? It is very easy to change out the filters. As a matter of fact let’s take a look at the difference between changing the filters on a traditional RO system and the Kwik-Change system.

Okay, here we have a typical residential RO installation and I am gonna show you what’s involved in a change of the cartridges. The tools you need are a pair of pliers, hopefully you still have the bowl wrech that came with the system. First thing you are going to do is shut off the water supply to the unit and close the tank valve because we are going to be changing the RO membrane. Then you want to loosen the cartridge with your wrench and unscrew the cartridge, take out the old cartridge.

Make sure you have the gaskets on your new cartridge and put it in place using the wrech. And the you would repeat the same process for the other two cartridges. Now let me show you how to change out the RO membrane.

First you need to make sure storage tank valve is closed and loosen the tubing connection on the end of the membrane housing, you then unscrew your membrane end-cap and grab the membrane.

Then you take the new membrane, install in just like it came out, reinstall your end-cap make sure the O-ring is still in place and then reconnect the tubing. Then you wanna turn on your feed water, let the thing pressurize, make sure there's no leaks and then clean up your mess.

So, you see this is very time consuming, cumbersome, makes a mess and requires tools. Let me show you how it works with the Kwik-Change. Ok, now let me show you how easy it is to change the cartridges on the Kwik-Change RO system.

By the way on this system you do not have to shut off the feed water or the storage tank. To remove the cartridge simply pull it towards you and turn it a quarter turn counterclockwise and it pulls right out.

By the way the cartridges and the system are color coordinated so there's never a question as to which cartridge goes were. Remove the sanitary cap, insert the cartridge, give it a quarter twist, put it down and go for the next one.

Now we are going to change the carbon cartridge, that first one was the sediment filter. Again, simply insert the cartridge, quarter turn clockwise, put it down, lift it up, quarter turn counter-clockwise and remove.

How often should a home owner replace his cartridges? The first two cartridges the carbon filter and the sediment filter should be changed every six months. The RO membrane which is what I am changing now, and remember how difficult this was to change on the other system, this is simply a quarter turn. This membrane should be changed approximately every year along with this final filter.

That's it, easy to do, no mess. That was easy, how about drinking water systems. It’s nearly identical, the only difference is your have to turn off your feed water valve and there is no RO membrane, there is no RO storage tank.

Well, this sounds as a great way have high quality drinking water in my house at a fraction of the cost of bottled water. It is, it is a very economical way to get high quality drinking water in your home.

And the RO system is certified in NSF standard 61 and NSF standard 68 and carries the Water Quality Association’s gold seal. This means that you can be sure that you’ll get consistent high quality water in your home.

Sounds great, how do I get Kwik-Change installed in my house? Call your Watts quality water dealer. He can come to your home, he will test your water, determine which system is right for you and they can install that system for you. Great, thanks Jeff. This is Dan thanks for joining us, see you next time.

GE

GE FQSVF

Hey everyone, today we are looking at the genuine GE FQSVF. This is a proprietary filter set designed specifically for certain GE drinking water systems. They fit into the GNSV70FVL and the GXSV65F and many other GE drinking water systems.

They feature GE’s twist and lock, quick change cartridge technology, which makes for super easy cartridge changes. Literally twist to remove and twist to install, you barely get your hands wet, it’s that easy.

These cartridges are NSF Standard 42 and 53 certified for a long list of contaminants and some of the usual nasties are on the list. Things like chlorine taste and odor, sediment, lead, VOC’s, and microbial cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia, and many other nasties that you don’t want in your drinking water.

These cartridges are also certified for the unique laws and requirements of the state of California. Filter life is approximately 160 gallons or six months  whichever comes first. Again, this is the genuine GE FQSVF, and I’m your host. Thanks for watching.

Today’we’re looking at the Culligan US-EZ-4.

This is a complete under sink drinking water system designed for ease of installation and ease of use. Now, there are a number of things I want to show you.

First of all it comes with everything you need for easy installation: the tubing, the hardware, the valve head and the cartridge of course, and a drinking water faucet with integrated electronic filter change indicator light.

This system is super easy to install, primarily because of these quick connect fittings, when it’s time to connect the water lines, there are no tools necessary.

Also, the system has super easy cartridge changes, watch this. In and twist, out, in and twist, that’s it, super easy. Throw the whole cartridge away, stick a new one in its place. The valve head receives all three of the RC-EZ cartridges. This is the RC-EZ-4, the RC-EZ-3 and the RC-EZ-1.  They all fit into the same valve head, so you can change cartridges based on your unique circumstances.

Maybe your water is fine right now and you just want basic chlorine taste and odor reduction. Then an RC-EZ-1 is a great choice. But, let’s say the local authorities notify you that there are chloramines in the water, now you want to upgrade to the RC-EZ-4 to remove that nasty cancer causing chemical from your water. So, it’s flexible. The whole system is NSF Standard 42 and 53 certified for a long list of contaminants, and of course that depends on which one of these cartridges you’re using.

But if you’re using the RC-EZ-4 cartridge, you’ll remove chlorine taste and odor, sediment, lead, mercury, VOC’s, microorganisms like cryptosporidium and giardia, MTBE’s and chloramines. Those are some serious nasties that you don’t want in your drinking water.

Filter life on the RC-EZ-4 is 500 gallons or six months, whichever comes first. Again, this is the Culligan US-EZ-4 system, also available as the US-EZ-3, or the US-EZ-1.
